Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
House Arrest
[Paw Tracks; 2006]
Grade: B+

Reviewer: Brittany Ordahl [KNDS DJ]

In "Hardcore Pops are Fun", the first track off House Arrest, Ariel Pink exclaims "Pop music is good. Pop music is fun." It's hard to disagree when listening to this album. It doesn't hurt that Ariel can go from surf rock to weird reggae to an almost R&B sound in just one song-West Coast Calamities-which interestingly enough starts with a Davey Jones clip and goes abruptly into what sounds like the middle of the song.

This album’s got a really fuzzy sound that somehow makes his music seem much more real, raw, and organic than most things I've heard. He's also got an amazing drum machine... oh wait. He did all the beats on the album with just his mouth? He played everything on the album his self? Right on, Ariel.
